Kompong Thom
This is the second largest province in Cambodia. The capital is also named Kompong Thom, and is a town on the banks of the Stung Sen River. Located on the main highway (National Hwy. 6) between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, it is a bustling town, but not a tourist location. It is a popular place to stopover and have a break on the long drive between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Kompong Thom Province contains some significant ancient pre-Angkorian sites, including the Sambor Prei Kuk Temple complex of the Chenla period. The town is also a starting point for people going to Preah Khan and Preah Vihear.
