Vietnam is a beautiful country with very colorful and varied cultural traditions, and the culture has been very much influenced by its much larger neighbor to the north, China.
For generations, festivals and celebrations have played an important role in the lives of the Vietnamese people, and they celebrate their festivals with much enthusiasm and great fun.
Because most of the population lives in rural areas, community spirit is very important, and festivals and celebrations are a large part of the life of the community. These festivals are mostly based on the seasons and agriculture, and are influenced by natural forces such as rainfall, and are celebrated at various times of the year. Games such as tug-of-war, buffalo fights, and races, etc.; along with folk songs, and traditional music and dance are an important part of any festival. This traditional music and song provides festivals with an air of joy and exuberance.
Festivals in Vietnam are also religious ceremonies, and a number of festivals are held to remember national heroes and founders of the nation. But no matter what the festival, it is an occasion to get dressed up and show-off their traditions. It is also the chance for people from different villages and communities to come together and renew old relationships, and for young people to have social encounters and form new relationships.
