Ha Tinh Travel Guide
Ha Tinh Province is between Quang Binh Province to the south and Nghe An Province in the north. Route 8, which runs through the province, goes to the Vietnam - Laos border crossing at Nam Phao / Cau Treo. Route 8 connects with Highway 1 near Hong Linh, not far from Vinh.
Unfortunately, Ha Tinh Province, nor the capital city of Ha Tinh, has a lot to offer visitors. In the city, there are many carts pulled by small horses, and not oxen. They trot quickly along, carrying all manner of goods, and construction materials. They serve the same function as cyclos do in other parts of the country, and drivers wait around for customers who need some load transported from one place to another. You can get a ride with them, albeit a rather rough one, to where you want to go, but you have to negotiate the price. You can take pictures of the carts, but the drivers expect to be paid for this.
What To Eat
There is also a famous local product called Cu Do. This is a concoction of honey, sugar molasses and ginger between two rice crackers. It is quite a good treat, and if you buy it in Ha Tinh, it will be freshly made and the inside will probably still be soft.
Communication
Ha Tinh is off the beaten path, but here you can see the “real Vietnam”, whatever that is. The accommodation is adequate, and of course you can get there and away by bus.
Internet is available in the town, and it is cheap and fairly fast. For monetary concerns, there is a 24-hour Vietcombank ATM at the south of the bus station. There is a Post Office open from 6:30am to 9:30pm.
