Halong Bay Travel Guide
Ha Long Bay is 170km from Hanoi off shore from Halong City. There are about 1960 islands set in the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. In 1994 it was designated as the second World Heritage Site in Vietnam, and it attracts a great many visitors all year round from around the world. There are many deluxe boat cruises that take you through the fantastic seascape views of the bay.
What To See & Do
In addition to the breathtaking vistas of the bay, visitors can also see floating villages and explore caves. There are also water sports such as swimming, fishing and kayaking. A visit to the bay can also be combined with a trip to the large island of Cat Ba, with beaches, and hiking in a national park.
Near Ha Long City, Tuan Chau Island is being developed into a recreation complex with aquarium, circus, golf and resorts, and is becoming popular with Vietnamese tourists.
When To Go
Visits to Ha Long Bay are possible at any time of the year, but the months from October to April are said to be the best time to visit. However, in December, January and February it can often be cool, drizzly and overcast with low visibility. During the summer months from May to September, storms are frequent, and cruise boats may have to alter their schedules depending on the weather conditions.
Travel Tips As with most tourist destinations, there is a wide difference in prices for overnight cruises
based on the quality of the boat, the level of accommodation, food, crew as well as other factors. When booking a cruise, you need to ask about the size of boat, the number of passengers on the boat, the type of cabin (with or without A/C), and what is included and not included in the tour package.
