Hoi An Travel Guide
Hoi An is located on the coast of Quang Nam Province, about 30 km south of Danang at the mouth of the Thu Bon River. It is a rather quiet but very picturesque town, and is right next to beautiful Cua Dai Beach. In the 17th to 19th centuries, Hoi An was an international trading port, and the cultural and architectural influences of Japanese and Chinese merchants can still be seen today. This is reflected in the look and feel of the town, and the distinctly Chinese atmosphere of the Old Quarter. In 1999, Hoi An old town was officially listed as a World Heritage Site.

Attractions
There are many things to see and do in Hoi An. But perhaps the best way to see Hoi An is to take a leisure walking tour through the narrow streets lined with ancient houses, assembly halls, pagodas, temples, ancient wells and tombs. As you wander the winding streets, there are a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and bars for you to choose from. There are also tailor shops where you can get custom-made clothes.
It is also a good place for cycling to nearby villages, or spending the day at beautiful Cua Dai Beach. You can take a day tour to the ancient center of My Son, or take a Vietnamese cooking class.
If you visit Hoi An on the 14th day of the lunar month, you will see the Hoi An Full Moon Festival. Under the full moon, Hoi An becomes one big stage and people come out to revive the prosperity and cultural activities of days gone by. Starting about 6pm the whole of town is lit with paper lanterns lining the streets, and the town becomes the stage for traditional songs, dancing, games and food.

When To Go
The best time to see Hoi An is between February and April, when rainfall is lowest and temperatures are mild. In the summer, temperatures can get quite hot. During the rainy season, especially from October and November, it can rain almost constantly, and there is also the possibility of typhoons and flooding.

Shopping Tips
Hoi An is a shoppers paradise with many handicraft makers and shops selling a wide variety of goods. As mentioned above, there are many custom tailors in Hoi An. If you consider having custom clothes made, most tailors are pretty much the same, but some are more reputable than others. Recommendations from hotels and restaurants are based on the relationship with the tailor, and not on the quality of the tailor. Check out several tailors before you decide, and it is a good idea to copying clothes that you already know and like.
