Mount Phan Xi Pang (Fansipan) Travel Guide 
Located southwest of Sapa in the Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range,Mount Phan Xi Pang is the highest mountain in Vietnam, at 3143m. It is sometimes called the roof of Indochina.
The peak is accessible all year, but it can only be reached on foot, and you do need to be in a good physical shape, and have the proper gear. The terrain is difficult, and it can be wet and cold. Usually it takes three days to reach the summit. No special climbing skills or equipment is required, but you do have to have endurance.
You will pass through valleys, jungle, rivers and a beautiful hill tribe village at the bottom along the way.
What To Prepare
You will need to prepare a cold weather sleeping bag, waterproof tent, food, stove, raincoat and other camping equipment you may need.
When To Go
The summit of the mountain can be reached all year round. However, the best times for climbing to the top of the mountain, is in the fall from mid-October to mid-December. Another good time to go is in March, when the wild flowers are in bloom. However, with these being the most popular times, there are many trekkers going up and down the mountain, and at the base camps. Hardly a solitude-in-nature experience.
Guides
Unless you are a very experienced trekker, and have confidence in your survival skills, hiring a trained guide is essential. You also can hire a porter to carry your equipment.
