What To See & Do
There are a number of interesting tourist sites in Sa Dec and Dong Thap Province. A few of these place are described below.

Huynh Thuy Le House
The French writer Marguerite Duras lived in Sa Dec between 1928 and 1932, and her mother ran a primary school in the town where the school still stands today. Ms Duras met Huynh Thuy Le, the son of a wealthy Chinese family, and the two became romantically involved. This love affair became the inspiration for Duras' award-winning novel, “The Lover”.
The elegant mansion of Huynh Thuy Le on Nguyen Hue Street, was built in 1889 and was restored in 1917. It has elegant French architecture, traditional Vietnamese design and tasteful Chinese decor, and has been designated as a national treasure. The house is open to the public, and guides offer tours in French, English and Vietnamese.
In addition to the Le house, there are other French Colonial buildings in town, and in the market area there are many houses of Chinese architecture.

Kien An Cung Temple
Built in 1920-1924, the temple features elegant Chinese architecture. It is located in ward 2, Sa Dec Town, and is a national treasure. It is highly decorated with carvings and paintings of plants, birds, animals, human figures, dragons, clouds, deer and cranes. On the main doors there are colorful drawings, and both side doors are carved with lotus flowers, birds, and animals.
The pagoda is quite beautiful and graceful, and has a green and peaceful outer garden. It attracts many visitors throughout the year, where they light incense and pray for good health and good luck, this is especially true in the New Year.

Sa Dec Flower and Bonsai Village

This village has been known for growing a wide variety of flowers and bonsai trees for over 100 years. It has an area of 60 hectares, 600 households and 3,600 workers, and is one of the main flower and bonsai growing centers in the South,
In January, the village is busy with gardeners preparing for the Tet holidays. Sa Dec flowers, and bonsai trees, are shipped all over the country, especially to Ho Chi Minh City. In the village, visitors enjoy the sight of a forest of flowers, with a variety of colors, and delightful scents wafting in the air.
The Sa Dec Flower & Bonsai Village is actually a very interesting place to visit, even if you are not interested in gardening or horticulture.
